Evaporative Coolers: The Environmentally Friendly Way to Keep Cool

Air conditioner or air cooler?

In the summer months, when heat extremes make working challenging indoors, air conditioners, fans, and evaporative coolers can be used to bring the temperature to a comfortable level.  An important thing to stress is that an evaporative cooler is not the same thing as a portable air conditioner. They work in different ways. While a portable air conditioner uses refrigerant gas as its cooling agent, an evaporative cooler uses water. In addition, unlike air conditioning units, air coolers do not have a hot air duct that needs to be vented.  For these reasons, evaporative coolers may be a better solution for your business.

How do evaporative coolers work?

Evaporative coolers, also known as air coolers, utilise water evaporation to transform hot air into a refreshing breeze. This process creates a cooling effect that resembles the refreshing sensation one experiences when being near the seaside or emerging from a swimming pool. An evaporative cooler works by passing warm air through a filter or pad that is soaked with chilled water. The air absorbs moisture from the pad, which cools and humidifies the air. A fan then circulates the cooled and humidified air throughout the space pushing the warmer air outside of the room. The evaporative cooler works best in low humidity settings which are well-ventilated to enable a fresh flow of air. Why choose an evaporative cooler to chill a room?

So a low-energy and less polluting unit is definitely greener, however, air coolers tend to need more maintenance and should only be used in low humidity environments.
